It is estimated that 1 in 4 women will be sexually assaulted in their lifetime – in the Solomon Islands, this rises to 64%. Assault can lead to psychological, physical, emotional and spiritual difficulties, and these can affect whole generations. In 2021, women from across the churches in the Solomon Islands, including representatives from the Anglican Church, came together to undertake training in counselling victims and survivors of sexual assault. From this initiative, many women have been supported not only to begin the journey towards healing, but to advocate for gender equality across their communities.
