Learning Methodologies- Post Trauma Side Event — Wednesday, February 23, 2011 12:00-1:30 p.m. CCUN 8th Floor This panel discussion will include speakers whose bodies of work focus on post-trauma healing, transformation, and reconciliation. The Panelists, comprised of religiously motivated women from the Global South, will share learning methodologies that make strides to a broader paradigm shift to full inclusion and participation of women and girls in society and decision-making.
Straight Talk- Donating Technology Side Event — Monday, 28 February 2011 12:00- 1:30 p.m. CCUN 8th Floor
This workshop will be a highly interactive dialogue, the content and focus of which will be driven by the experiences of participants in the room. Workshop facilitators will encourage discussion about the multi-faceted and multi-consequential relationship between donors of technology, and access by its intended recipients. Underlying themes that we hope to extract are that of a broader paradigm shift in hegemony and the transformation of individuals and societies.

Brief Description by Marion:
For those interested in language use, my undergraduate degree is in Linguistics with an emphasis on socio-linguistics (how language & culture intersect), and I will be addressing distinctions between retributive language patterns and restorative language patterns as part of the workshop. I will also explore the impacts of this type of training on teen women who are parenting and/or on probation and/or gang involved. I’ve been offering this training in the Diocese of BC as the capacity building aspect of our sexual misconduct prevention program. Event Description:
Religious communities can play pivotal roles in averting violence, and transforming armed conflicts. Specifically, religious communities and leaders can do so much more to eliminate violence against women and secure maternal health for women and children in conflict and post-conflict situations. There is also a need to recognize the particular agency of women of faith, whose leadership is largely unrecognized at institutional and public policy levels. Through their formal and informal religious women’s organizations and networks, women of faith engage in creative forms of grassroots organizing, activism and mobilization to confront violence, protect vulnerable populations and advocate for protection, justice and transformation. The inherent strength and creativity of women of faith to transform conflict ought to be utilized by governments, United Nations, other religious leaders and communities. This session will highlight the challenges to attaining maternal health and addressing violence against women in conflict and post-conflict situations. It will then focus on some of the good practices of engaging religious communities to address violence against women and secure maternal health. The session will mobilize momentum for common action among different faiths, United Nations agencies, and development communities to increase support and partnerships with religious communities and enhance the capacities of women of faith as agents of peace.

Women of Faith Changing the World for a Learning Opportunity Grounded in God’s Call to Local and Global Action. A Beijing Circle is a tool to help us learn about issues affecting women around the world, which enables us to bring about positive change locally, nationally, and globally. The Circle is formed in the local community to study and address 12 Areas of Concern from The Beijing Platform for Action and the Millennium Development Goals. The CIRCLE is the PROCESS.
